Cat Carroll
Cat Carroll is an early career independent journalist whose reporting centers on global health, migration and human rights. She is the 2025 recipient of the Wolff Fellowship and served as a 2025 Pulitzer Center Campus Consortium Reporting Fellow, awards that support her pursuit of international, solutions-oriented journalism.
Carroll is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she studied journalism and international studies with additional majors in German and certificates in public policy, European studies, Middle East studies and Arabic. During her time at UW–Madison, she served as managing editor and later chair of the board of directors of the independent student newspaper The Badger Herald.
Carroll’s reporting to date has included in-depth projects on international health systems and migration dynamics. Through her current fellowship, she has traveled internationally to document the lived experiences of communities and journalists addressing underreported global issues. Her work has previously been supported by fellowships with the Center for Journalism Ethics and the Association of Health Care Journalists.
She grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is committed to telling stories that deepen understanding of cross-border movement, access to health care and belonging.
